Chili dinner fundraiser

SWARTZ CREEK — The Swartz Creek Women’s Club will hold its annual chili dinner fundraiser 4-7 p.m. Feb. 11 at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church.

The fundraiser benefits the Veteran’s Memorial and Valentine’s for Vets. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under. The menu includes chili, hot dog, corn bread, dessert and drink. Attendees are asked to bring one to two Valentine’s cards to put in a Valentine’s box made by the Girl Scouts. The box of Valentine’s wil be sent to the Saginaw VA Hospital. There also will be a silent auction for the Swartz Creek Veteran’s Memorial.

Those who cannot attend but want to donate can purchase a ticket and give it to the food pantry to be given away. The fundraiser is sponsored by the GFWC SC Women’s Club. Details or tickets: Call Rae Lynn at 810-635-3569. — N.B.

Spaghetti dinner

SWARTZ CREEK — St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 9252 Miller Rd., announces its spaghetti dinner 5-6:30 p.m. Feb. 14.

The dinner is all-you-can-eat and features Fr. Gene’s homemade sauce, garlic toast, salad and drinks. Cost is $7 for adults, $2.50 for children under 12 and $15 for a family with children under 12. Takeouts also are available.

Women’s Club scholarship

SWARTZ CREEK — The Swartz Creek Women’s Club is offering one $500 scholarship for 2011.

All women living within the Swartz Creek Area School District and currently attending college are invited to apply. Applicants mustcarryaminimum2.5collegeGPA. Application forms will be available at the Swartz Creek City Hall and the Swartz Creek Perkins Library. The application deadline is May 14, 2011.

The winning candidate will be determined through committee review and/or interview. The winning candidate will be invited to the August Swartz Creek Women’s Club meeting to be awarded the scholarship.

Spaghetti dinner benefit

GAINES — A spaghetti dinner benefit for the Debien family is 4:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at Gaines Elementary, 300 E. Lansing. There is no set price dinner; it will be by donations.

Volunteers are needed to make spaghetti sauce in the early afternoon (after lunches) on that Friday, Feb. 4 at the Gaines Elementary.

Organizers also are looking for donations of food items to make the dinner and supplies, such as plates, napkins, etc. Drop off boxes are at Gaines Elementary, Swartz Creek Middle School and Swartz Creek High School. Details: Call 810-591- 1075. — N.B.

Boosters seeks volunteers

SWARTZ CREEK — The new Swartz Creek High School Drama Boosters Club is looking for drama and music alumni volunteers to assist the directors with future plays.

The group also needs volunteers to help with set building, adver tising, program design and more. The club is looking for donations of any old power or regular tools to help with building sets.

Silent auction, spaghetti dinner for PAWS

FLINT — PAWS Animal Rescue announces its upcoming spaghetti dinner and silent auction fundraiser Feb. 19 at Welfare Masonic Temple, 6208 N. Genesee Rd.

There are two dinner times for the allyou can-eat dinner: 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $4 for kids ages 3-12 and free for children under 3. Individuals not able to stay for dinner can get a “To Go” dinner.

Tickets are available from PAWS volunteers or through PayPal on the organization’s website. The silent auction features 50/50 drawings, and there also is a bake sale. The auction ends at 6:30 p.m.

Schools of Choice

SWARTZ CREEK — Swartz Creek Community Schools is accepting applications for enrollment in three of its elementary schools and its middle school for the second semester of the 2010-2011 school year under the Schools of Choice program. The enrollment is open for students who do not reside within the district’s boundaries.

Dieck, Gaines and Syring Elementary Schools and Swartz Creek Middle school each have 10 openings spread throughout the kindergarten to the eighth grades. Parents interested in enrolling their children should contact Debbie Vanderlip at 810-591-2385 for more information on the grades and buildings that are open.

Students are not charged tuition and do not need a release from their resident district if accepted by Swartz Creek.

Transportation will be the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Applications are available at the administration building, 8354 Cappy Lane, or online at www.swartzcreek.org. — N.B.
