Clarification, correction

SWARTZ CREEK – The Michigan Association of School Boards’ legal staff provides information, not opinions, regarding its members’ activities.

Information should not be interpreted as legal advice, according to MASB attorney Brad Banasik. Information from an MASB attorney was included in a July 10 article on the Swartz Creek Board of Education vote on renovating the Cage.

“We provide information so (board members) can make conscious decisions,” said Banasik.

He said the MASB would not recommend a school board member take a particular action. If a board member were to abstain from voting on a motion, passage of the motion would still require a majority of the full board. – L.R.
