EDC board created

SWARTZ CREEK – The Swartz Creek City Council has established an ad-hoc committee to create an Economic Development Strategy that will help align the community for state assistance in attracting new business. The Economic Development Strategy Steering Committee members are Mayor David Krueger, Councilwoman Rae Lynn Hicks, Planning Commission Chairman and business owner Doug Stephens, business owners Eric and Dawn Jamison, Angie Root, Sharlene Howe, Connie King and Jared Whittey, DDA member and business owner Todd Beedy, school Superintendent Ben Mainka, Hometown Days Chairwoman Brenda Huyck, Chamber of Commerce President John Knickerbocker and City Manager Adam Zettel. – L.R.

June emergency stats

GAINES TOWNSHIP – There were 128 calls to 911 for emergency assistance in Gaines Township in June. Ten calls were in the Village of Gaines. Township police responded to 92 of the 911 calls as well as 24 walk-ins. In addition, township officers issued three citations and 11 warnings, performed 25 business and 41 residential property checks, obtained two misdemeanor and two felony warrants, and made one misdemeanor and one felony arrest. Gaines Township police responded 11 times in the Metro Police Authority service district while Metro officers answered five Priority 1 calls in Gaines Township. There have been 884 incidents so far this year, as compared to 831 for the same time last year. Township firefighters handled eight fire runs and 11 medicals.

Rummage sale

SWARTZ CREEK – The United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 27 and 9 a.m. to noon July 28. All proceeds go to missions. – L.R.

Car, motorcycle, tractor show

GAINES TOWNSHIP – Duffield United Methodist Church and the Christian Corvette Friends of America will sponsor their annual car, motorcycle and antique tractor show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28 at the church, 7001 Duffield Road. – L.R.

Food pantry open

CLAYTON TOWNSHIP – The Swartz Creek Church of Christ food pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon July 28. – L.R.

Steak fry

SWARTZ CREEK – Swartz Creek Masonic Lodge #458 will host a steak fry from 4-7 p.m. July 28. 16-ounce Angus ribeye, Caesar salad, loaded baked potato, baked beans, dessert, beverage. $20. BYOB. – L.R.
